Rabat – Malawi officially opened its embassy in Rabat on Monday in a ceremony co-chaired by the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita and his Malawian counterpart Nancy Tembo.
During the inauguration, Tembo conveyed her country’s gratitude to Morocco for its collaboration in establishing the Malawian diplomatic representation.
She also commended the excellent bilateral and multilateral relations between Rabat and Lilongwe and added that the embassy’s opening marked a new chapter in fortifying friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
Tembo noted that this development provides an opportunity for Malawi to benefit from Morocco’s successful experience in various fields.
In addition, she highlighted the convergence of views between the two countries on matters of common interest and applauded Morocco’s continued commitment to supporting her country in several areas.
The minister praised the steady pace of mutually beneficial cooperation, underscoring the signing of the bilateral cooperation roadmap for the 2022-2024 period.
The roadmap aims to strengthen the two countries’ bilateral relations in education and training, agriculture, trade, and security, as well as economy and investment.
Meanwhile, Bourita affirmed that the inauguration of the Malawian embassy in Rabat demonstrates the “maturity” of the bilateral relations between the two countries and the level of their cooperation across multiple domains.
He added that the embassy’s opening aligns with the shared ambition of both countries to collaborate in achieving their development goals and contributing to Africa’s progress.
During her official visit to Morocco from December 17 to 21, Tembo will oversee the operationalization of Malawi’s consulate general in Laayoune, which was inaugurated in July 2021, as well as visit Morocco’s southern provinces.
Tembo’s meeting with Bourita was an opportunity for the Malawian FM to reiterate her country’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and the country’s autonomy planfor Western Sahara.
