Rabat – The Moroccan government, led by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, is set to disburse direct financial aid to nearly one million families, equivalent to 3.5 million Moroccans, starting December 28th.
The initiative, outlined by Akhannouch during a government council meeting in Rabat on Monday, aims to bolster social welfare through the Unified Social Registry.
“As of December 28th, approximately one million eligible families, encompassing 3.5 million Moroccans, will receive the initial installment of this financial support. The minimum aid per family, regardless of its composition, will stand at 500 dirhams,” announced Akhannouch.
He emphasized that families submitting their applications before December 10th and having their files processed will be among the first beneficiaries. Those who applied after the specified date can anticipate disbursements for December and January by the end of next month.
Akhannouch cited the ongoing accessibility of the application process, urging eligible families to submit their documentation promptly to secure future direct social support.
Celebrating the government’s prompt initiation of aid disbursements, he revealed that over 1.9 million applications have been received through the dedicated online portal, since its launch in early December.
This year has marked a pivotal year for the implementation of various social projects, collectively known as the “Social State.”
This includes the widespread adoption of mandatory health insurance, direct social aid for families facing poverty or precarious conditions, and assistance programs for primary residence acquisition.
Akhannouch also addressed the transformative reforms in the education system, emphasizing the crucial role of educators in achieving the desired outcomes.
“We have ensured the creation of a conducive environment by building trust with educators, evident in the agreement reached on December 10th, granting a net monthly salary increase of a minimum of 1,500 dirhams. This is the largest such increase in the history of the kingdom, with an annual cost exceeding 10 billion dirhams to the state finances,” he remarked.
The initiative is in line with royal instructions to implement the Direct Social Assistance program before the end of 2023.
It will benefit needy social categories as well as school-age children, disabled children, newborns, and families in precarious situations without school-age children, particularly those with elderly dependents.
