Rabat – On Saturday, Moroccan police from Casablanca’s Sidi Bernoussi district arrested a local taxi driver suspected to be involved in a case of abduction and violent theft.
A security source revealed that the taxi driver transported a woman and her brother from a public place in the rural area of Ain Harouda to a neighborhood in Casablanca late at night.
The first victim managed to flee the taxi in such a manner that physically exposed her to danger. The second victim was kidnapped and robbed.
An investigation led to the identification and arrest of the suspect in the rural area of Air Harouda. Police put the suspect in custody pending the judicial inquiry to uncover all circumstances of the case as well as to determine motive.
Morocco’s 2023 National Security annual report stated that police recorded a 10% decrease in the overall crime rate in Morocco. Last year, authorities reported 738,748 criminal cases, resulting in the arrest and prosecution of 723,874 individuals for different crimes. Additionally, the report highlights a 4% decrease in sexual assault crimes as well as a 19% decrease in car theft crimes.
