Rabat – On Tuesday, Qatar’s foreign ministry spokesman, Majed Al Ansari, announced that there will be an increase in humanitarian supplies to enter war-stricken Gaza today.
This came about due to an aid deal brokered by Qatar and France. Whilst Israel will allow more basic supplies into Gaza, Hamas will permit for medicine to be given to the 132 Israeli hostages, who remain in captivity.
The agreement is desperately needed in the wake of rapidly deteriorating and devastating humanitarian conditions in Gaza.
Palestinian authorities have reported that on day 103 of the war, the death toll now stands at 24,448 and the number of wounded has risen to 61,504. In addition, 85% of Gaza’s population has been displaced and a quarter of the population are starving.
The perilous situation in Gaza has undoubtedly mounted pressure on calls for a ceasefire.
This pressure has manifested in the form of protests globally. Yesterday, 150 protestors from Mennonites Action, a religious activist group in the US, were arrested for protesting for a ceasefire outside the US Capitol in Washington, D.C. This public demonstration, as well as countless others, showcases the unwavering support that the global community has for Gaza.
