Meknes – France assistant coach Guy Stéphan has warned that France is preparing for a highly competitive 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-final showdown against Morocco.
Didier Deschamps’ right-hand man explained that the Atlas Lions’ impressive tournament form and elite individual talent make them a completely different and far more dangerous challenge than past opponents.
Speaking at Monday’s press conference, Stéphan revealed that the French technical staff has been closely scouting the Atlas Lions to prepare for the clash.
“They are a well-organized team with a strong collective structure and great solidity; they are also excellent in attacking transitions and have scored a significant number of goals during this tournament,” Stéphan said.
The French assistant coach went on to applaud the impressive growth of Moroccan football, pointing out that the country’s recent footballing evolution is a direct result of the local federation’s strong infrastructure and planning.
“I think the Moroccan federation is doing an excellent job and providing the necessary resources for growth. Moroccan football has made massive progress over recent years,” he added.
To prove his point, Stéphan pointed to Morocco’s recent historic results against traditional football giants. He warned that the Atlas Lions have already demonstrated they can handle elite opposition.
“They drew with Brazil and beat the Netherlands; they are fully capable of going toe-to-toe with the best European and South American teams,” the French tactician explained.
Finally, Stéphan praised the team’s lasting chemistry, explaining that recent coaching transitions haven’t disrupted their momentum. He concluded: “Despite the change in manager, the Moroccan team still retains its collective strength, and this is proof of the immense work that has been accomplished over the past few years.”
This highly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-final clash will take place at Boston Stadium on Thursday, with kickoff scheduled for 9.00 PM Moroccan time.
