Rabat – After a thrilling 3-2 victory over Almería at the Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz traded his football boots for sandals and swapped the Spanish capital for the enchanting city of Marrakech.
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder was spotted strolling through the labyrinthine streets of the ancient medina on Monday, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere and readily snapping photos with fans.
Diaz’s vacation snapshots, flooding social media alongside supporters at the iconic Jamaa El Fna square, inevitably reignited the simmering debate surrounding his international future, as the talented player is yet to make a definitive choice between Morocco and Spain.

The question of Diaz’s allegiance has been a source of speculation for months. Last October, the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, publicly slammed Spanish media outlets for their “disloyal competition” in luring players with dual nationality.
Despite appearances for Spain’s youth teams, Diaz remains untested at the senior level. Recent reports suggest he may be leaning towards Morocco, a decision seemingly corroborated by his omission from the call-up list for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
However, Morocco’s head coach, Walid Regragui, has made it clear that his team is not a “plan B” for players.
“Brahim is a talented player, but he must be fully committed and motivated to play for Morocco,” Regragui stated, emphasizing that only genuine dedication will earn a place in his squad.
Regarded as a rising star, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti acknowledged the player’s prowess, hinting at an expanded role in upcoming matches.
Diaz’s stellar performances have also not gone unnoticed, with the midfielder concluding 2023 as Real Madrid’s standout player of the month of December.

Having joined Los Merengues from AC Milan in August, Diaz has swiftly become an integral part of the team, featuring in 18 games this season and contributing four goals and two assists across various competitions.
As Brahim Diaz navigates the twists and turns of dual nationality, his stroll through the streets of Marrakech adds an intriguing chapter to the story, leaving fans and soccer enthusiasts alike to await his decision on the international stage.
