Rabat – It was a wild ride at the Bouake Stadium as Cameroon clinched a 3-2 victory over Gambia in their last Group stage game at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Thanks to today’s win, Cameroon booked a spot in the tournament’s Round of 16. The team secured second place in Group C standings with four points.
Meanwhile, Gambia found itself at the bottom of the group with zero points.
Cameroon’s Karl Toko Ekambi opened the scoring in the second half of the game, securing a goal for his team in the 56th minute.
The Gambia fought back, with Ablie Jallow netting a goal in the 72nd minute to even the score.
Soon after, Ebrima Colley put Gambia in the lead in the 85th minute.
However, in an unexpected twist, James Gomez accidentally scored an own goal in the 87th minute, evening the result out.
As the finishing whistle approached, the match was a rollercoaster of emotions as both teams were keen on scoring a winning goal.
Christopher Wooh managed to score the winning goal in added time, sealing the 3-2 win for Cameroon.
Meanwhile, the other group C game between Guinea and Senegal ended with the latter winning with a 2-0 victory.
Senegal is therefore leading Group C’s standings with nine points, also securing a spotin the Round of 16.
