Rabat – Qualified for the Round of 16 for the fourth time in a row, the Moroccan football squad will take on its South African counterpart, as part of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) organized in Cote d’Ivoire.
On January 30, the two competing teams will convene at the San Pedro Stadium at 9 p.m. Moroccan Time. Fans watching remotely can follow the match on Morocco’s Arriyadia TNT or on South Africa’s local broadcaster Supersports.
The Moroccan squad managed to qualify for the Round of 16 through two wins over Tanzania 3-0 and Zambia 1-0, and a draw with DR Congo 1-1, to earn seven points on top of Group F.
Despite this deserved qualification, Moroccan fans and sports analysts have made remarks on the team’s failure to capitalize on the numerous scoring opportunities the team has produced, urging it to put more effort to improve this aspect.
For its part, the Bafana-Bafana team qualified in second place of Group E after a 0-2 defeat to Mali, a convincing 4-0 win over Namibia, and a goalless draw with Tunisia.
Morocco has been elected as the host of the 35th edition of AFCON which will take place in 2025, marking the country’s 20th appearance in this continental tournament.
