Rabat- The head of the Moroccan government, Aziz Akhannouch, visited several local communities in the Province of Tiznit on Friday to assess the progress of a number of regional development and social initiatives.
The visit is in line with the implementation of the Proximity Policy, reflecting the Akhnnouch-led government’s commitment to King Mohammed VI’s “high instructions” to reduce socio-spatial disparities and promote development in rural and mountainous areas. It also underscores the government’s dedication to fostering development and addressing these disparities as outlined in its Proximity Policy agenda.

Recently inaugurated health center in Tiznit
Accompanied by local authorities and several ministers, including the Minister of Health and Social Protection, and Minister of Equipment and Water, the head of government launched two key health centers in the underserved region, namely the urban-level 2 health center “Tafraout” and the rural-level 1 health center “Oujan.”
The inauguration of the two centers, which are set to benefit approximately 12,000 local residents, marks a significant stride forward in addressing the region’s pressing healthcare challenges. Equipped with modern facilities and staffed by specialized medical professionals, these centers promise accessible and high-quality healthcare tailored to the needs of the community.
Offering a wide range of services, including general medical consultations, nursing care, chronic disease management, maternal and child health monitoring, school health programs, and health awareness and education initiatives, these centers aim to address diverse community health needs. This means the two centers will effectively increase access to quality care and promote overall community well-being.![]()

Akhannouch’s visit was also marked by the inauguration of the Lalla Rkia Center in the Ammeln municipality (Tafraout), which is dedicated to providing social and medical assistance, socio-educational support, and vocational training for people with special needs.
Oasis Development Initiatives
The Head of Government also presided over the inauguration of the Tafraout wastewater treatment plant and assessed the progress of the potable water supply project for Tafraout and neighboring municipalities. Both projects are being implemented under the auspices of the National Office of Electricity and Potable Water (ONEE).
During his visit, Akhnnouch toured the Issi Ait Manssour Valley, where he received a presentation on the integrated development program designed for the area. This initiative, targeting the development of 12 villages covering an area of 140 hectares, aims to capitalize on the valley’s strengths and bolster its resilience against climate change.
The program is set to unfold in two stages, targeting the restoration of infrastructure crucial for safeguarding the oasis from flood and fire damage. It also focuses on harnessing water resources and fostering integrated tourism development to drive oasis growth.![]()

Akhannouch attended a briefing on the development program funded by the National Agency for the Development of Oases and Argan Trees (ANDZOA) for the province of Tiznit, as well as an update on the progress of the rural road construction program for 2024-2025.
Rural roads expansion
Akhannouch and the accompanying officials were later briefed on the progress of the rural road construction program in Tiznit province for 2024/25. They also attended the inauguration of construction on the widening and strengthening project of regional road No. 104, which stretches approximately 23 km from Tahala to Taroudant via Tafraout.
This project, scheduled to last about 16 months, aims to enhance road user experience, bolster road safety, and drive economic, social, and tourism development in the region.
In remarks to the press, Akhannouch emphasized the significance of these programs in fostering regional development and addressing social and territorial inequalities.
