Rabat – Five people have died as a result of the collapse of an old house in the old city of Fez.
The victims include three men and two women.
According to sources cited by Moroccan news outlet Le360, the incident occurred around 6 p.m., after the first part of the ceiling of the third floor collapsed, followed by a second collapse of the same ceiling, causing the entire house to collapse.
The collapsed house, which consisted of three floors, was inhabited by three families. Local authorities moved to the scene upon learning of the incident to help rescue victims and retrieve all the victims from under the rubble.
This is not the first time such incidents have occurred, particularly in old medinas like Fez. One of the most recent incidents took place in 2020.
A building collapsed in August 2020 in the Fez medina. No injuries or deaths have been reported as a result of the incident.
The building collapsed in a bustling section of the Fez medina, between Sagha Avenue, Acchabin Avenue, and Nouaariyine Avenue. The area is known for its diverse array of merchandise.
