Rabat – Senator Hotels & Resorts, a Spanish hotel company, has announced its expansion into the Moroccan market with a new beachfront resort, called Senator Babylon, in the southern Moroccan city of Dakhla.

Scheduled for a grand opening in mid-May 2024, the Senator Hotel & Resorts said in a press release that the new property represents “an international leap to Morocco,” as well as the beginning of an expansion strategy that they wish to carry out in 2024. Resorts group wants to carry out during 2024,”.

Senator Hotels & Resorts promises a luxurious and unforgettable experience for its guests at the anticipated Senator Babylon in Dakhla.

The newly built establishment will gradually introduce new room areas in the months following its inauguration, providing visitors with an opportunity to take in the beauty of the coastal city, added the statement.

The facility will feature 50 rooms in its initial phase, as well as a spa center, a heated indoor pool, and various dining options.

The hotel group spotlighted the beauty of Dakhla, saying that it is a city “bathed by the Atlantic with views of the Sahara Desert.” It added that the city is a “paradise” for those passionate about water sports and surfing.

Apart from water sports, the statement noted the diverse range of activities that Dakhla offers, from camel rides and 4×4 desert excursions to visits to the scenic Imlili Lakes.

In addition, the city’s gastronomy reflects a rich blend of Andalusian, French, and predominantly Moroccan influences, featuring specialties like oysters, couscous, and tagines.

Senator Babylon in Dakhla adds to a long list of Spanish hotels that have been making their presence in Morocco.

This includes hotel groups Barcelo, Riu, Iberostar, and Melia, which already manage 18 hotels and establishments in Morocco. These hotel giants are looking to capitalize even further on the North African country’s tourism boom.

The tourism industry in Morocco saw record-breaking numbers last year, surpassing pre-COVID-19 levels.

The country welcomed a total of 14.5 million visitors in 2023, representing a 12% increase compared to 2019.
