Rabat – About 4.88 million French travelers visited Morocco last year, outlet Le Figaro said, citing data shared by Morocco’s National Tourism Office (ONMT).

This number accounts for more than one-third of the 14.5 million tourists who traveled to Morocco last year.

The Moroccan tourism office said that French tourists account for more than a third of arrivals or 33.6%.

Data showed that various travelers, including the French, have visited many Moroccan destinations ranging from Agadir to Tangier, with the most popular being Marrakech.

Morocco celebrated a new milestone bringing in 14.5 million visitors last year. The number reflects the country’s overall ambition, aiming to reach 17 million visitors by 2026.

In 2023, record-breaking figures mark a 34% increase compared to 2022.  The number also represents a 12% surge compared to 2019.

“We have even surpassed our 2019 figures, our reference year before the COVID crisis,” ONMT told Le Figaro.

As of November 2023, Morocco’s tourism revenues reached $9.8 billion. This number increased  158  in comparison to the year prior.

Several reports highlighted Morocco among the top travel destinations for French tourists.

One such report was from March of last year when French tourism-focused outlet L’Echo Touristique ranked Morocco top fifth out of 20 destinations.

The ranking noted that the business volume from travel operations between France and Morocco jumped by an overwhelming 93% in February 2023 compared to the same time in 2022.
