Rabat – Guinea-Bissau has reiterated its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara.
Carlos Pinto Pereira, Guinea-Bissau Minister of Foreign Affairs, renewed his country’s position following a meeting with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita on Friday in Rabat.
“Guinea-Bissau recognizes the sovereignty of the kingdom over its entire territory and is committed to doing everything to ensure that this reality is recognized internationally,” Pereira said in a statement following the meeting.
He added that in addition to this recognition, his country aligns with Morocco on several other important areas on the international level, and stressed the importance of efforts to strengthen bilateral ties.

These efforts include cooperation and learning from Moroccan expertise covering sectors of education, vocational training, tourism, fisheries, and others.
Guinea-Bissau continuously demonstrated its unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial. They reflected their support with the opening of their diplomatic representation in Dakhla in October 2020.
The opening of the consulate came after the two countries signed a group of agreements seeking to boost cooperation at different levels, including energy tourism, transport, and logistics.
About 30 countries have opened their consulates in Morocco’s southern provinces as part of the growing support for the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its southern provinces.
Over 100 countries support and regard Morocco’s Autonomy Plan to the UN as a “serious and credible political solution” to end the dispute over Western Sahara.
