Rabat – Michael Langley, Commander of the US Africa Command, also known as US AFRICOM, has reiterated the importance of security cooperation with Morocco, commending the North African country’s commitment to regional stability.

“Morocco’s commitment to regional stability is exemplary, and its leadership in promoting security cooperation is unparalleled,” he said.

Langley also commended the country’s “strong” military partnership” between the two countries, reflecting the “common values” and the  Morocco-US “commitment to peace and prosperity.”

Langley arrived this week in Rabat for his official working visit, where he met senior military officials to discuss security cooperation.

The US military official touched on the US-Morocco cooperation in organizing the largest joint-military exercise in Africa, also known as the African Lion.

Emphasizing the importance of the joint military maneuvers, Langley said that these drills not only enhance the country’s military capabilities but also their shared commitment to collective security.

“Together we will work hand in hand to address the challenges ahead of us and build a safer and more prosperous future for all,” he said.

Morocco has been the host of the African Lion for over 18 years, and preparations have been ongoing to discuss this year’s edition, which is likely to take place this summer.

Several African countries take part in the joint-military maneuvers, sharing expertise and enhancing their capacities in tackling security threats, including terrorism.

At the instruction from King Mohammed VI, Abdeltif Loudyi, the delegate minister to the Chief of Government in charge of the Administration of National Defense, met with General Langley, discussing several themes, including the achievements of the existing military cooperation relations under the defense partnership roadmap for 2020-2030.

Both parties also emphasized the progress made and acknowledged the positive outcomes resulting from the collaboration between the Moroccan Armed Forces and their American counterparts.
