Rabat – A fire engulfed a shop at the Marina Tangier, an entertainment and tourism area in the northern Moroccan city.
Converging reports indicate that at least one person died, while several others were injured.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, the reports said, noting that the blaze engulfed the entire facility, causing significant material damage to the building – including a restaurant located above the establishment.
Civil vehicles and authorities arrived at the scene to put out the fire. Meanwhile, police have opened an investigation to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
Several similar incidents have taken place across Morocco in recent weeks and months.
The latest such incident took place in January in Casablanca, affecting the Corniche Complex in January. No reported human casualties were recorded.
A massive fire also broke out in a warehouse in the Sidi Ghanem area in the area of Marrakech last year in August. The fire resulted in significant material losses.
