Rabat – In his second season with the Riyadh-based team, Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo is rumored to have made an offensive gesture during the Saudi Pro League that might result in a few games suspensions.
Ronaldo may be suspended for a few games, which would be disastrous for the Saudi Al-Nassr team given their advanced position in the standings.
His gesture came after Al-Nassr won over host Al-Shabab 3-2 on Sunday.
After the final whistle, Ronaldo was seen on social media making a lewd gesture repeatedly. The action appeared to be directed against the Al-Shabab group’s followers.
In addition, the social media footage seems to indicate that Ronaldo’s longtime opponent Messi’s shouts could be heard in the background. The five-time Champions League champion is said to have been triggered by the taunts coming from Al-Shabab’s opposing supporters.
Nevertheless, Ronaldo was able to escape punishment since no television camera captured the incident. But the Saudi daily Asharq Al-Awsat reported on Sunday that the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) has launched an investigation into the situation.
The Disciplinary Committee will study the case that was captured at the end of the match, and the decision will be issued within the next two days, the same source added.
The Portuguese legend had opened the scoring for Al-Nassr in the 21st minute from a penalty kick, before Brazilian forward Anderson Talisca scored a brace to lead Al-Nassr to a 3-2 victory over Al-Shabab.
Al-Nassr is now ranked second in the standings with 52 points after Al-Hilal which is leading with 59 points.
