Rabat – Morocco and Germany renewed their commitment to work together to boost security cooperation during a meeting today in Rabat.
Abdellatif Hammouchi, General Director of Morocco’s National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST) received today the head of the German Federal Criminal Police Office, Holger Munch, according to a statement from DGSN.
During the meeting, bilateral talks focused on forms and levels of cooperation between the two countries.
Both officials also reviewed mechanisms to enhance the two countries’ cooperation to achieve a better approach to address transnational crime and mitigate all risks and threats affecting the security and safety of citizens in both countries.
They also stressed the importance of Moroccan-German cooperation in the security field, reflecting the “effective” North-South cooperation.
The two countries frequently emphasize the importance of security cooperation.
In October last year, Germany’s Minister of Interior Nancy Faeser visited Morocco and stressed the crucial importance of addressing migration in the context of the strong relationship between Rabat and Berlin.
She also emphasized Germany’s goal to establish a bilateral agreement with Morocco on migration as well as boosting cooperation to tackle common concerns, including combating organized crime, human trafficking, and terrorism.
Morocco is one of the key security partners for many countries in the international community.
The North African country frequently assists countries worldwide, providing them with intelligence assistance for security services to arrest wanted suspects.
In October last year, converging reports said that Moroccan intelligence services played a crucial role in helping German police prevent a potential terrorist plot targeting the European country.
DGST shared the essential information, allowing German police to locate and arrest a German-Egyptian national who was suspected of planning terrorist attacks.
