Marrakech – Tesla CEO Elon Musk has raised eyebrows by staunchly defending a particular drug for combating negative mental states.
The controversial billionaire made the blunt comments in a recent, candid interview with former CNN host Don Lemon.
At one point in the sometimes combative interview, Musk staunchly defended his use of prescribed ketamine to address moments of “negative chemical (or mental) state.”
When asked about media reports suggesting investor unease over his use of prescribed ketamine, Musk sought to reassure stakeholders about the drug’s effectiveness.
“Ketamine is helpful for getting one outside of a negative frame of mind,” Musk insisted in the interview, which was posted on social media.
He acknowledged taking the dissociative anesthetic to manage moments of ‘negative frame of mind,” emphasizing its therapeutic benefits.
Musk also swiftly rebuffed any insinuation that his personal choices, particularly regarding drug use, could sway investor sentiments.
The billionaire, who oversees SpaceX, Tesla, and the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), further clarified his approach to ketamine, stating that he does not perceive his condition as ”extended depression.”
Since the video was posted, many commenters on X, formerly Twitter, have expressed support for Elon Musk and criticized Don Lemon for asking intrusive questions.
“Medically prescribed ketamine infusions given in a clinical setting can be helpful in treating depression,” one commenter said. “I get a clinical treatment every 6 weeks. Thus ends the only thing I’ve ever agreed with Elon Musk about.”
Another lashed out at the former CNN anchor, stating: “Don Lemon is stupid enough to ask Elon Musk for an interview then proceed to accuse Elon of being racist, promoter of hate speech + addicted to Ketamine then wonders why he got kicked off of X.”
