Rabat- With many Muslim countries having started Ramadan today and others preparing to welcome the holy month tomorrow, King Mohammed VI has extended greeting cards to the heads of states of Islam and Muslim-majority countries around the world.

In his message, the king extended his congratulations and best wishes, along with prayers for blessings, grace, and prosperity throughout this blessed month of fasting and intense prayer.

While many countries around the world have started fasting today, Morocco’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs officially declared March 12 as the start date of Ramadan 2024 in the North African country.

The announcement came after the country’s Special Crescent Sighting Committee presented its conclusions, which determined the official start date of the holy month of Ramadan.

In its assessment, the committee noted that this year’s Ramadan should begin on March 12 in Morocco, as the crescent moon was not visible on the evening of March 11.

Countries that began fasting for Ramadan today include various Middle Eastern countries like Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar, as well as North African nations spanning from Algeria to Egypt, and West African countries such as Senegal, Mali, and Cote d’Ivoire.

Meanwhile, Morocco, Oman, and Guinea, among others, will mark the start of this year’s Ramadan on Tuesday, March 12.

The ninth month of the Islamic calendar, Ramadan is observed by Muslims worldwide. Throughout this sacred month, Muslims refrain from consuming food, drinks, and engaging in sexual activity from dawn until sunset.
