Rabat – Moroccan athlete Ramzi Boukhiam has etched his name into the records of the Kingdom’s sporting history, clinching a silver medal at the recently concluded ISA World Surfing Games in Puerto Rico.

Boukhiam’s achievement marks a significant milestone for Morocco, as it secures the nation’s inaugural medal in the esteemed global surfing competition.

The ISA World Surfing Games, held from February 23 to March 3, witnessed fierce competition among some of the world’s most talented surfers.

Boukhiam’s stellar performance propelled him to the podium, where he stood alongside Brazilian Gabriel Medina, who clinched the gold, and Frenchman Kauli Vaast, who secured the bronze.

The International Surfing Association (ISA), founded in 1964 and recognized by the International Olympic Committee, serves as the pinnacle authority for the sport of surfing.

Boukhiam’s silver medal not only adds to his personal accolades but also enhances Morocco’s standing in the global surfing community.

Boukhiam’s success in Puerto Rico has also paved the way for his participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where he will represent Morocco on the grand stage of competitive surfing.

Having previously qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Boukhiam’s dedication and skill have solidified his status as one of the sport’s elite athletes.

Born on September 14, 1993, in Agadir, Boukhiam has been a prominent figure in the surfing world for several years. His victories at events such as the Pro Anglet in 2017 and the Lacanau Pro in 2018 have established him as a force to be reckoned with on the global circuit.

Moreover, he holds the distinction of being one of only two African surfers to compete in the 2020 Summer Olympics, alongside South Africa’s Bianca Buitendag.

His journey from the shores of Agadir to the podium in Puerto Rico exemplifies the dedication, talent, and determination that define the spirit of surfing.
