Rabat – Ramadan 2024 is anticipated to commence on Monday, March 11th, in the UK, as per astronomical calculations and moon sighting reports.

The UK Islamic Mission and London Central Mosque have forecasted that Ramadan will begin on the evening of March 10th, with the first day of fasting observed on Monday, March 11th.

They have also announced that fasting will conclude on the evening of Tuesday, April 9th, 2024, with Eid Al-Fitr expected to fall on April 10th.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is a sacred period during which Muslims worldwide observe fasting from dawn until sunset, refraining from both food and drink.

The sacred month holds immense significance for Muslims, serving as a time of spiritual reflection, devotion, and renewal of faith.  Beyond its religious significance, Ramadan fosters community and solidarity among Muslims, strengthening bonds with family, friends, and neighbors.

With estimations suggesting a global Muslim population exceeding 1.8 billion individuals, the significance of Ramadan transcends borders and unites communities in spiritual observance.

According to the Office for National Statistics in the United Kingdom, more than 3.9 million individuals are followers of the Islamic faith. Previous data indicates a significant 44% surge, equating to 1.2 million, in the UK’s Muslim population over the course of a decade.

Islam is the second most commonly practiced religion in the UK, following Christianity.

Muslims come from diverse backgrounds in the UK, and this is reflected in their celebrations that showcase their cultural heritage and rich tapestry of foods.

Originating from various parts of the world, be it the Middle East, South Asia, Africa, or elsewhere, they find solace in the flavors and aromas that remind them of their hometowns. From the savory delicacies of Moroccan tagines to the fragrant biryanis of Pakistan, each dish connects them to their roots.

As the Muslim population continues to grow in the UK, Ramadan remains a cherished and celebrated occasion, symbolizing unity, compassion, and devotion to faith.
