Rabat – Trade between Morocco and Israel witnessed a significant decrease amid the ongoing Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) devastating war on defenseless Palestinians in Gaza.
Citing data from Israeli economic reports, Israeli news outlet i24 News said trade exchanges between the two countries witnessed a “record” decline in 2024 since the outbreak of IOF’s aggression and murderous campaign on Palestinians in Gaza.
The news outlet has said that the trade between the two countries witnessed a decrease of 60% this year, recalling that economic ties between the two countries previously recorded a 128% increase in 2022.
I24 News added that Israel failed to achieve its goal due to the ongoing war in Gaza. Israeli Minister of Economy Orna Barbivai said in 2022 that her country seeks to reach an annual trade volume of $500 million with Morocco.
She made her remarks during her visit to the North African country in mid-2022, a few years after the two countries decided to re-establish bilateral ties as part of the US-brokered Abraham Accords.
The source added that in 2022, trade between the two countries reached $180 million last year.
I24 News further stressed Morocco’s position in the ongoing IOF war, recalling that the North African country has recently called for an immediate ceasefire.
“Gaza is experiencing an unprecedented crisis and a humanitarian catastrophe that the international community cannot continue to turn a blind eye to,” the news outlet quoted Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita as saying during the 55th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Since October 7, Israel has killed over 30,400 Palestinians in Gaza, including tens of thousands of children and women. In the past 24 hours, Israeli occupation forces murdered over 100 people in their ongoing massacres, targeting Palestinian humanitarian aid seekers.
In addition to war, starvation continues to claim the lives of Palestinians. The Gaza Ministry of Health announced the death of 15 children who died of starvation and dehydration.
