Rabat – Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi has reached a major achievement in European football, equalling Hakim Ziyech’s record of 83 appearances in European competitions.
The Paris Saint-Germain right-back reached the mark on November 3, 2026, after starting his side’s UEFA Champions League encounter against Spanish club Villarreal in the fourth round of the league phase.
According to statistics published by French network Stats Foot, Hakimi has now matched Ziyech as the Moroccan player with the most appearances in European competitions.
The 27-year-old has accumulated 81 appearances in the UEFA Champions League and two in the Intercontinental Super Cup. His European record includes matches with four clubs: Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain.
Hakimi began his European career with Real Madrid before gaining further experience in Germany and Italy. His performances at Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan helped establish him as one of Europe’s prominent attacking full-backs.
Since joining PSG, he has continued to play an important role in the French club’s domestic and European campaigns.
Hakimi could break Ziyech’s record against Roma
Although both players currently stand at 83 appearances, Hakimi has an opportunity to move ahead of Ziyech in the coming weeks.
PSG are scheduled to face Italian side Roma on November 25 in the fifth round of the Champions League league phase. Another appearance would give Hakimi 84 matches and make him the sole holder of the Moroccan record.
Ziyech’s 83 appearances came across several European competitions and qualification rounds.
The attacking midfielder, who currently plays for Brazilian club Botafogo, recorded 45 appearances in the Champions League proper and 14 in its qualifying rounds. He also featured in 17 Europa League matches and six Europa League qualifying games, in addition to one appearance in the Intercontinental Super Cup.
His European record includes spells with Chelsea, Ajax, Galatasaray, FC Twente, and Heerenveen.
The two Moroccan internationals therefore reached the same total through different club journeys, with Ziyech featuring in both the Champions League and Europa League, while Hakimi built most of his tally in the Champions League.
Luis Enrique
Hakimi was not the only PSG figure to reach a notable milestone during the Villarreal encounter.
According to Stats Foot, Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique became the first manager to reach 50 Champions League matches with a French club.
The Spanish coach has continued to lead PSG’s European campaign after guiding the club through several major continental challenges.
Meanwhile, Portuguese midfielder Vitinha maintained another remarkable record.
The midfielder has featured in all 58 of PSG’s Champions League matches since joining the French club in the summer of 2022, according to the same statistical network.
Hakimi’s latest achievement adds another chapter to the growing list of Moroccan players who have made their mark in European football. With the Roma fixture approaching, the defender could soon hold the record outright and move beyond Ziyech’s historic tally.
