Rabat – Chinese telecommunications company Huawei announced several new initiatives aimed at fostering digital talent development at the company’s annual Huawei Talent Summit held on the sidelines of Mobile World Live (MWC) Barcelona 2024.
Held from 26 to 29 february, MWC Barcelona is the largest and most influential event for the connectivity ecosystem that brings together global mobile operators, device manufacturers, technology providers, vendors, content owners.
The theme of Huawei’s event, “I C Talent: Nurturing Excellence in a Digital World,” underscored Huawei’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and empowering individuals through technology education.
The event brought together representatives from international organizations like the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and UNESCO, as well as government officials, industry leaders, and participants in various Huawei talent programs.
Global collaboration to bridge the digital divide
A key announcement was the launch of the ITU-Huawei Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme.
This initiative, open to young people aged 18-28, aims to support community projects tackling the digital divide. Participants can receive funding, mentorship, and training to bring their ideas to life.
Huawei also announced its collaboration with UNESCO’s Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) to launch a project in Morocco.
This project will equip 10,000 educators and professionals with the necessary skills to integrate technology effectively into their teaching and professional development.
Furthermore, Huawei’s commitment to diversity and inclusion was highlighted through their sponsorship of the European Girls’ Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI).
This sponsorship aims to encourage more girls to pursue careers in technology and bridge the gender gap in the tech industry.
Additionally, Huawei Cloud unveiled its plans to support global startups through an enablement program.
This program will provide IT-based and intelligent services to help startups seamlessly migrate to the cloud and accelerate their business growth.
Building a more inclusive digital future
Concluding the summit, Vicky Zhang, Vice President of Huawei’s Corporate Communications Department, emphasized the company’s long-standing commitment to cultivating digital talent globally.
She encouraged continued collaboration and participation in these initiatives, stating, “By staying connected and acting as role models, we can shape a more inclusive digital future together.”
Huawei’s talent development programs have already reached over 150 countries, benefiting more than 2.83 million individuals.
These new initiatives further solidify the company’s dedication to bridging the digital divide and empowering individuals to thrive in the ever-evolving digital landscape.
