Rabat – Over 2.1 million tourists visited Morocco in the first two months of 2024, according to new data from the country’s Ministry of Tourism.

The number indicates a growth rate of 14% compared to the same period last year, the ministry added, while attributing the development to campaigns to promote Morocco as a destination.

“Efforts to promote Morocco as a destination and improve air connectivity continue to yield results,” the ministry said,  emphasizing that the North African  country’s tourism continues its journey “towards achieving the goals of the roadmap.”

According to the new data, 1.1 million tourists visited Morocco in February this year, an increase of 18% compared to February 2023.

Foreign tourists represent 53% of the total arrivals in Morocco, while Moroccans residing abroad constitute 47 % of this number.

The ministry emphasized its determination to continue to boost Morocco’s attractiveness, highlighting the tourism sector’s importance for the country’s economy.

As Morocco seeks to attract 17 million tourists by 2026 and to 26 million tourists, Moroccan hospitality operators have launched initiatives in recent months to make the country more attractive to tourists.

Notably, Morocco’s National Tourism Office (ONMT) has launched several initiatives to attract international partners and appeal to more tourists from around the world.

Last week, ONMT announced a groundbreaking partnership with United Airlines, which will be the first airline to operate a flight between Marrakech and New York.

“This historic announcement marks the first direct point-to-point connection by an American airline to Morocco and the greater North Africa region. This is the result of the numerous promotional actions carried out by the ONMT teams targeting the American market, in line with their ‘Light in Action’ plan,” ONMT said in a statement.

The flight will start operating in October with three flights through a Boeung 767-300 featuring 167 seats.
