Rabat – The Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema is teaming up with the Ivorian authorities to officially inaugurate the Mohammed VI Mosque on April 5 in Abidjan, following the directives of King Mohammed VI.
The Friday sermon will be delivered by a delegate from Morocco’s Higher Council of Ulema, in the presence of Moroccan and Ivorian officials and religious figures.
According to a press release from the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema, there will be a religious vigil honoring Laylat Al Qadr, or the Night of Destiny, on the day of the mosque’s opening at the Mohammed VI Mosque in Abidjan.
Attesting to the King’s aspirational vision, which highlights his dedication to preserving religious principles, the Mohammed VI Mosque in Abidjan will strive to disseminate knowledge, instruct in the Holy Quran, commemorate prayer, and promote the moral principles of peace, tolerance, and dialogue that the Muslim religion advocates.
Based on the shared religious principles of the two countries, the mosque will opt to share Moroccan expertise in managing the religious field, symbolizing the historic and fraternal ties between the Ivorian and Moroccan peoples, the statement added.
Construction work on the Mohammed VI Mosque in Abidjan was launched on March 3, 2017 by King Mohammed VI and Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara. Moroccan artisans painstakingly adhered to traditional and genuine Moroccan architectural norms while working on the project, the press release explained.
The mosque building covers an area of 25,000 square meters and includes a prayer hall with a capacity of 7,000 worshippers, as well as a conference room, a library, a commercial complex, green spaces, an administrative pavilion, accommodation for the imam (prayer leader), and a parking lot.
