Rabat – Astronomical calculations expect Eid Al Fitr 2024 to fall on April 10, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan in Morocco.
If confirmed, Morocco will fast 29 days this month compared to other countries like Saudi Arabia, where Ramadan will complete 30 days.
The official date of Eid Al Fitr will be confirmed by the moon sighting carried out a few days before the feast.
Morocco’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs entrusts a committee made of religious experts to carry out the moon sighting for religious events like Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr.
Like all religious events and celebrations, Eid Al Fitr brings a unique culture treasuring familial bonds all across the country.
The celebrations start with Eid prayers on the morning of the feast, featuring Moroccans adorned with beautiful traditional garments including the jellaba, gandoura, and jabadour.
Following prayers, Moroccans gather around a breakfast table with varied food and Moroccan pastries.
Eid is also marked by family visits, with children being gifted cash from their close relatives.
Children also wear new clothes specifically for Eid festivities. They usually go out to the street nearby to play with their friends and show off their festive attire.
Moroccans are expected to enjoy a few days off as a holiday.
In addition to Morocco, several other Arab countries are set to declare April 10 as Eid Al Fitr.
Next week, Morocco is expected to return to daylight saving time, or GMT+.
Each year, Morocco suspends GMT+1 exclusively for Ramadan as it affects the fasting time. After Ramadan, the country switches back to GMT+1.
