Rabat – Tangier judicial police dealt a significant blow to a suspected drug trafficking operation this morning, seizing 5 kilograms of cocaine and large sums of money in various currencies.
According to a statement released by Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), authorities apprehended a suspect believed to be involved in the drug ring. Officers also confiscated a vehicle allegedly used for illicit activities.
The DGSN statement detailed that follow-up searches uncovered a substantial amount of Moroccan dirhams totaling 8.5 million, alongside additional euros.
The arrested individual is currently in custody, with investigators aiming to uncover any potential accomplices.
This significant seizure comes on the heels of another successful Moroccan narcotics operation.
National security elements, working in collaboration with customs services in Nador province’s Beni Ansar center, thwarted an international psychotropic drug trafficking attempt on Wednesday.
The security intervention resulted in the confiscation of over 1,400 psychotropic tablets intended for smuggling into Morocco.
Security sources revealed that border control procedures, including thorough inspections, led to the arrest of a 56-year-old Spanish woman upon her arrival from Melilla. Authorities discovered the woman carrying more than 1,400 “Rivotril” psychotropic tablets.
The suspect is currently in police custody, facing a judicial investigation overseen by the Nador Judicial Police Brigade and the competent public prosecutor’s office.
The investigation aims to determine any potential local or international ramifications of this cross-border criminal activity.
