Rabat – King Mohammed VI has extended his congratulations to the Moroccan national futsal team for winning the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) title last night.
“We are delighted to extend our warm congratulations to you following your victory in the seventh edition of the African Nations Futsal Cup (Morocco 2024), hosted by our beloved capital Rabat, with all the hospitality and excellent organization it deserves,” the monarch said in a message to the team.
The king also conveyed his immense pride in the unwavering determination exhibited by the Atlas Lions in securing the continental title for the third consecutive time.
In addition, King Mohammed VI highlighted the team’s “exemplary patriotism and sincere dedication to advancing our nation’s football and sports stature,” saying that they have been “truly inspiring.”
In addition to the players, the king extended his congratulations to the technical and administrative staff of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
He also wished them the best in their efforts to achieve excellence in both continental and international tournaments. He notably hoped for continued success and accolades for the team in the upcoming Futsal World Cup.
The Moroccan futsal team clinched victory in the AFCON final against Angola with a score of 5-1, maintaining an unbeaten record throughout the tournament.
The win marked Morocco’s third AFCON title, following victories in 2016 and 2020.
Due to their outstanding performance at the AFCON, the team secured a spot in the upcoming Futsal World Cup, which will take place in Uzbekistan later this year.
Morocco’s futsal team is ranked eighth globally.
