Join on Telegram Rabat – The United Nations has issued a call for a thorough investigation into the mass graves discovered within two major hospitals in the war-torn region of Gaza, following raids by Israeli occupation forces.
Ravina Shamdasani, a spokesperson for the UN’s human rights office, emphasized to the press the necessity of a “clear, transparent, and credible” investigation into the deaths.
“Given the prevailing climate of impunity, this should include international investigators,” she stressed.
UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric stressed to the press the importance of credible investigators having access to the sites.
Dujarric also highlighted the critical role of journalists in Gaza, urging for their safety to be ensured so they can report the facts accurately.
Meanwhile, The UN’s human rights chief, Volker Türk, expressed horror at the destruction of the al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City and the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis.
“Hospitals are entitled to very special protection under international humanitarian law,” Türk added.
He told the press that the “intentional killing of civilians, detainees and others who are ‘hors de combat’ is a war crime.”
Palestinian defense teams discovered the mass grave inside the Nasser Medical Complex in Gaza’s Khan Younis.
They recovered the bodies of nearly 300 individuals, including elderly women, children, and young men. They are believed to have been killed during the hospital siege and raid.
Al Jazeera reported that the discovery began on Saturday and continued into Sunday. This unfolded in the wake of the IOF’s ongoing bombardment that has plagued the coastal enclave for over six months.
In a statement issued late on Saturday, Palestinian emergency services affirmed their commitment to continuing search and retrieval operations for the remaining victims in the coming days.
The identities of those buried in the mass grave by the military remain unknown.
