Rabat – Moroccan futsal coach star Hicham Dguig emphasized today the importance of hard work and perseverance as his primary mechanisms for success.

In a recently published interview with FIFA, Dguig offered a detailed overview of how he uses hard work to achieve success for both himself and his national futsal squad.

“I have only two key words: Hard work and perseverance. That’s what guides and motivates me every day,” he said, acknowledging that he experienced a tough start.

“I was still a young coach. I learned to master certain aspects of tournament life on the job. Then, in 2020, at home, it was confirmation, and in 2024, it was pinnacle {with a third consecutive victory],” Dguig told FIFA.

Morocco’s futsal team’s recent achievement was clinching the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Futsal trophy after beating Angola 5-1 in the finals in April.

The tournament, which took place in Morocco, marked Morocco’s third AFCON title, with previous wins in 2016 and 2020.

The national team displayed exceptional performances throughout recent years, clinching several victories in titles, including their victory in the Arab Futsal Cup final in June last year.

All these performances contributed to Morocco’s advanced ranking in the FIFA Futsal Men’s World Rankings.

In the ranking, Morocco was listed as the sixth-best team in the first ranking.

In his interview with FIFA, Dguig stressed that playing as a player maker allows for a “continuously evolving approach to the game because you are the link between the court and the coach.”

He said this approach compels “you to have a more developed love for the discipline.”

The interview also features testimonies from other football stars, including the head coach of Morocco’s national team Walid Regragui, who described Dguig as “the best coach in Morocco, in Africa, and even beyond.”

Dguig’s objective now is to focus on the new challenges, including the FIFA Futsal World Cup, which will take place in Uzbekistan.

“We’re eager to be there; we have arguments to put forward and a continental champion status to defend. We need to prepare well to be ready.”
