Rabat – Morocco’s House Speaker Rachid Talbi Alami is leading a parliamentary delegation to China to strengthen bilateral parliamentary relations between the two countries.
The delegation, consisting of members from both the majority and opposition parties, was invited by the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China.
The primary objective of this visit is to boost the parliamentary relations between Morocco and China, as well as to coordinate efforts in various international parliamentary platforms.
The delegation’s agenda includes discussions aimed at deepening mutual understanding and cooperation on a range of issues of mutual interest.
Leji Zhaok, the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, has previously visited Morocco in May 2023 following an invitation from the North African country’s house speaker.
During his visit, he led a high-level delegation and engaged in discussions with Moroccan officials.
Morocco and China have enjoyed diplomatic relations since 1958, with ties steadily evolving and expanding over the years.
Economic cooperation between the two countries has been particularly strong, with China emerging as one of Morocco’s key trading partners and investors.
Chinese investments have contributed significantly to Morocco’s infrastructure development, including the construction of ports, highways, and renewable energy projects.
Culturally, the exchange between Morocco and China has also flourished, with initiatives promoting cultural understanding and people-to-people exchanges.
In addition, both countries have collaborated closely on various international issues, including climate change, peacekeeping, and counter-terrorism efforts.
King Mohammed VI made a call for strengthening relations between the Arab world and China during his speech at the first China-Arab Summit, which took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in December 2022.
He emphasized that the Arab-China partnership offers possibilities to overcome various challenges, including those induced by COVID-19, armed conflicts, and political instability.
