Rabat- As Morocco prepares to celebrate the National Day of the Rights of the Child, the Moroccan National Council for Human Rights has announced that it will convene a meeting on Friday at its headquarters in Rabat to present its assessment and recommendations on the situation of children affected by last September’s earthquake.

The session will be themed “Protection of Child Rights in the Context of the September 8, 2023 Earthquake: Council’s Observations and Preliminary Recommendations through Digital Monitoring and Field Visits,” the Council noted.

It added that its assessment and recommendations on the situation of vulnerable children in Morocco provide a particularly comprehensive examination of the impact of last year’s earthquake on the mental and physical well-being of affected children.

CNDH President Amina Bouayach initiated the formation of a working group to monitor the human rights situation in earthquake-hit regions.

As part of this human rights assessment mission, the Council has implemented a special monitoring mechanism for children’s rights in the affected regions, combining field visits and digital surveillance in affected areas.

“These recommendations focus on legal, procedural, and integrative elements within public policies aimed at children,” the Council quoted Bouayach as stressing in a press statement shared with Morocco World News. “They encompass bolstering proactive measures and resilience during crises, alongside advocating for children’s active participation and fostering a digital environment that counters deceit.”

The statement noted that the Council’s soon-to-be-released assessment and recommendations will focus on children’s rights issues in both the digital and non-digital spaces, emphasizing the paramount importance of protecting children’s rights in normative, procedural, and moral dimensions.

The statement concluded that in line with its principle of participation and empowerment of children, tomorrow’s session of the National Human Rights Council will be attended by many children, one of whom will chair the opening session of the event.
