Rabat – Bouygues Construction’s Moroccan subsidiary, Bymaro, has been selected to construct the Mohammed VI International University Hospital in Rabat.
According to a statement from the company earlier this week, the contract is valued at approximately €450 million and solidifies Bymaro’s position as a key player in the country’s healthcare construction sector.
The handover of the project is slated for September 2025.
The Mohammed VI International University Hospital is set to cover four six-story buildings alongside a towering 25-story structure. Covering an expansive area exceeding 275,000 square meters, the facility aims to provide state-of-the-art healthcare services and educational resources.
Among its notable features, the hospital will boast 553 beds and 20 operating theaters, equipped with cutting-edge medical technology.
In addition, the facility will house a comprehensive array of teaching amenities, including 15 lecture theaters, 72 teaching rooms, and 217 practical workrooms — all outfitted with the latest in audiovisual technology.
Designed by AIA Architecture, the hospital will be organized into three interconnected structures. The tower will serve as the nerve center, accommodating consultation rooms, administrative offices, and teaching spaces.
The hospital block will include critical care units, diagnostic facilities, and logistical support areas, while the university wing will host lecture theaters.
According to the press release, the Mohammed VI International University Hospital aspires to align with national and regional healthcare policies while setting a new standard for hospital design and service quality in Morocco.
The project aims for Exceptional HQE certification for sustainability, the statement explains.
Plans equally include the installation of 8,800 square meters of photovoltaic panels, covering over 10% of the site’s energy needs and reducing carbon emissions by over 40% compared to industry benchmarks.
The construction of this monumental project is expected to engage 3,500 site workers and subcontractors during peak periods.
In the statement, Pierre-Eric Saint-Andre, Deputy CEO of Bouygues Construction, expressed pride in the company’s selection for this endeavor, emphasizing the company’s dedication to delivering on ambitious timelines and environmental objectives.
“We are proud to have been chosen to construct the Mohammed VI International University Hospital in Rabat and to be able to contribute to the provision of healthcare services for thousands of Moroccans,” said the deputy CEO, quoted in the release.
This project marks Bymaro’s third project in healthcare infrastructure in Morocco in the past five years, following the completion of the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Bouskoura in 2019 and the ongoing “Smart Health Care City” project in Benguerir.
