Rabat – Thailand’s cabinet has approved new visa promotions aimed at attracting more tourists, including visitors from Morocco. As part of the initiative, Moroccan tourists no longer need a visa to enter Thailand and can stay for up to 60 days.

Effective June 1, 2024, the measure is part of broader efforts to enhance Thailand’s appeal to international visitors, according to the Bangkok Post

The country’s Foreign Ministry proposed these measures to attract as many visitors as possible, government spokesman Chai Wacharonke said.

With the recent changes, the number of countries eligible for visa-free entry has increased from 57 to 93, including notable additions such as Cambodia, China, India, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Laos, Mexico, and Uzbekistan.

In addition, the cabinet approved visa-on-arrival for 31 countries, up from 19 previously. This expansion is expected to simplify the entry process for tourists from these countries.

A new five-year visa targeting digital nomads, remote workers, freelancers, and those interested in learning Muay Thai and Thai cuisine was also introduced. This “Destination Thailand Visa” allows stays of up to 180 days, extendable for another 180 days. Previously, such visitors were limited to two stays of 30 days each.

Foreign students in higher education can now stay for one year after graduation, instead of being required to leave the country immediately after finishing their courses.

For long-stay applicants aged 50 years or more, the compulsory health insurance coverage has been reduced from 3 million baht to 440,000 baht. This adjustment will be effective from September to December.

The cabinet has also approved the expansion of e-visa application services at Thai consulates and embassies, increasing from 47 to 94 locations, starting in September.
