Rabat – In a devastating incident at Haoumat Al Haddad, Beni Makada district in Tangier, two women died while six others sustained varying degrees of injuries following the explosion of a small gas cylinder (Butagaz) inside a four-story residence.
The gas explosion ignited a fire within the building, which is home to a single local family, as confirmed by authorities from Tangier’s prefecture.
Upon receiving news of the tragedy, local authorities, in coordination with security forces and emergency services, promptly deployed to the scene of the explosion.
According to MAP, their immediate priority was to evacuate the injured to Mohammed V Hospital in Tangier for urgent medical care and to extinguish the flames that had spread through parts of the building.
The explosion’s impact caused substantial structural damage, leading to visible cracks that necessitated a comprehensive inspection by a joint commission.
Their main goal was to evaluate the building’s structural integrity and enact essential precautionary measures.
As a precautionary measure, residents were evacuated from the building, and the surrounding area was sealed off to minimize any potential risks.
An investigation has been initiated under the supervision of the relevant authorities to ascertain the exact causes and circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
The fatalities and injuries have had a deep impact, emphasizing the critical need for strict safety protocols concerning the storage and usage of small Butagaz cylinders in residential areas.
