Rabat – ClimateLaunchpad, a global green business ideas competition, is set to hold its 2024 Bootcamp in Morocco from June 19-22.

The event, hosted at StartGate, the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University’s (UM6P) startup campus, is a key component of the Climovation accelerator program, which aims to cultivate and support high-impact climate entrepreneurs.

This year’s bootcamp introduces a new initiative: the “Women in Cleantech” (WiC) expert meeting. Scheduled for the first day, the meeting is co-organized with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH’s WOMENA project.

This collaboration highlights ClimateLaunchpad’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive cleantech sector by empowering women entrepreneurs.

A press release from ClimateLaunchpad stated, “We are excited to introduce new elements to the Climovation ecosystem. The WiC meeting will bring together over 20 experts in entrepreneurship, sustainability, investment, and clean technology.”

The WiC meeting addresses the persistent gender gap within the cleantech industry. Despite growing advocacy for women in STEM fields, many across the MENA region and Africa, particularly in remote areas, face significant barriers to entry.

Access to resources, mentorship, and guidance remains a challenge. However, the crucial role women play in environmental solutions cannot be overstated. Many women in cooperatives and family businesses are already driving positive change through sustainable practices.

“These unconnected women are often the silent drivers of success,” the press release continued. “With our region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem evolving, it’s crucial to guide and support them, helping them access and thrive in the global market.”

The bootcamp itself will host 18 carefully selected startups. Over the course of four intensive days, participants will benefit from personalized mentoring sessions and expert guidance provided by UM6P-StartGate and GIZ Morocco.

The program aims to equip these startups with the necessary skills and knowledge to compete in the national finals, followed by the Africa regional finals, and ultimately, the global finals held in the Netherlands later this year.

ClimateLaunchpad’s 2024 bootcamp, with its emphasis on both climate entrepreneurship and women’s empowerment, positions Morocco as a potential leader in fostering a diverse and impactful cleantech future.

The event promises to provide a platform for not only empowering entrepreneurs with innovative solutions but also potentially shaping a more sustainable future for the region and beyond.
