X Greenlights Adult Content in Latest Policy Shift

Marrakesh – Over the weekend, X, introduced new clauses to its rules, officially permitting users to post adult and graphic content on the platform, with some conditions, TechCrunch reported on Monday.

Users are now allowed to share consensually produced NSFW (not safe for work) content, provided it is clearly labeled as such. The updated rules also encompass AI-generated videos and images.

X has historically hosted numerous active NSFW communities. Although the social network has unofficially tolerated adult content, its previous guidelines neither explicitly banned nor endorsed such material.

The rule change is not entirely unexpected, as X, under Elon Musk’s leadership, has previously experimented with formally hosting adult content through NSFW communities.

“We believe that users should be able to create, distribute, and consume material related to sexual themes as long as it is consensually produced and distributed, states X’s page on “adult content” policies, adding that, “Sexual expression, visual or written, can be a legitimate form of artistic expression.”

According to TechCrunch, X’s guidelines for violent content are similar, emphasizing that such material must not be “excessively gory or depicting sexual violence.”

The platform still prohibits content that explicitly threatens, incites, or glorifies violence.

X’s rationale for permitting graphic content is to enable users to engage in discussions about current events, including sharing relevant images and videos.

For some, the anticipation is high, with many eagerly scouring the site for the best adult pages.

A user said, “Since X is officially allowing adult content. Show me the best adult page.”

On the other hand, some users have expressed disagreement with this decision.

One user on X commented, “I don’t think I wanna be posting my cute doggy pics, country pics, or selfies on here if world-domination Adult content takes over!”

Another user remarked, “Completely nuts decision by Elon to allow porn on X.”

The social network allows users to flag their posts as containing sensitive media. It also restricts these posts from being viewed by users under 18 or those who haven’t listed their birth dates on their profiles.
