Rabat – Saturday marked new appointments to a series of key positions within strategic establishments, notably within Morocco’s airport authority.

Among the appointees was Adil El Fakir, who has an extensive experience in the tourism industry.

This experience enabled him to clinch a new position as the general director of the National Airports Authority (ONDA).

King Mohammed VI approved his appointments yesterday in a ministerial council held in Casablanca’s royal palace.

El Fakir, who had been serving as the head of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) since 2018, holds an MBA from the Ecole des Ponts ParisTech as well as a degree in marketing studies from the University of Social Sciences in Toulouse. He also holds a master’s degree from the Moroccan Institute of Commerce and Management.

Between 2013 and 2018, El Fakir held several positions, including as the director of the advertising agency of Morocco’s television company SNRT, Deputy Director General of Atlas Bottling Company and Regional Marketing Director for North And Equatorial Africa at the Coca-Cola company.

El Fakir’s tenure marked several key initiatives that  he contributed to Morocco’s tourism sector.

One of such initiatives is the newly developed 2023-2026 action plan “Light in Action,” which focuses on different pillars, including marketing, airline, digital, and distribution.

The roadmap seeks to attract 17.5 million tourists in Morocco as well as generate over $11 billion in revenues in addition to creating 200,000 new jobs by 2026.

Morocco attracted 14.5 million tourists last year and aims to attract 15.5 million more this year.

By 2030, Morocco seeks to be a destination for 26 million tourists, a possible plan as the 2030 World Cup along with Portugal and Spain.
