Rabat – Aimee Cutrona, Deputy Head of Mission at the United States Embassy in Morocco, has said that King Mohammed VI’s far-sighted leadership is propelling Morocco at the forefront of shaping the future of artificial intelligence (AI) in Africa. during a recent address in Rabat.

The American diplomat made the comments while speaking at the High-Level Forum on Artificial Intelligence in Rabat. Held under the auspices of King Mohammed VI, the event marked another significant milestone in Morocco’s journey towards AI leadership on the continent.

Drawing a parallel between the forum and GITEX Africa, the AI- and cutting-edge innovation-themed continental exhibition that took place in Marrakech last week, Cutrona hailed it as a resounding testament to Morocco’s commitment to advancing AI innovations.

With a focus on fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, the forum served as a platform for dialogue among stakeholders from over 30 countries, including representatives from fifteen African nations.

According to the organizers, the goal was to lay the groundwork for a comprehensive African AI strategy while stressing the need for inclusivity and sustainable development.

Cutrona emphasized the enduring partnership between Morocco and the United States in advancing AI technology. She praised the joint efforts that led to the adoption of the first UN resolution on AI, underscoring both nations’ commitment to ethical AI development and responsible usage.

As AI continues to reshape industries and societies worldwide, Cutrona urged collaboration in addressing the challenges associated with its implementation. She emphasized the imperative of prioritizing human rights and ethical considerations to build a future where AI serves as a force for good.

“We must collaborate to tackle existing challenges and guarantee that everyone is included in this technological revolution, fostering a future that is inclusive for all,” Cutrona concluded.
