Rabat – The Republic of Armenia has officially recognized the State of Palestine. The recognition increases the number of United Nations member states acknowledging Palestinian statehood to 149 out of 193.
According to a report from Palestinian press Wafa Agency, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement today emphasizing the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza and Israel’s ongoing war as urgent issues that demand international attention and resolution.
“The Republic of Armenia has joined United Nations General Assembly resolutions calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza,” the statement declared.
The ministry further stressed Armenia’s commitment to seeking a peaceful and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, advocating for a two-state solution as the only viable path to lasting peace and security.
“Based on the above and reaffirming its commitment to international law and the principles of equality, sovereignty, and peaceful coexistence among nations, the Republic of Armenia recognizes the State of Palestine,” the statement concluded.
Armenia’s recognition follows similar declarations made last month by Slovenia, Spain, Norway, and Ireland, highlighting growing international support for Palestinian statehood.
Since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza on October 7, Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) killed more than 37,400 Palestinians and left over 85,650 wounded.
Israel’s relentless attacks on Palestinian territories have caused uproar on the international stage, with protests around the world calling for governments to take action.
Meanwhile, the United Nations is warning weapon manufacturers to not supply arms to Israel, maintaining that it could make them complicit in violations of international law carried out in Gaza, Al Jazeera reports.
Israel’s ruthless attacks on civilians have even caused a rift with its longest-standing ally, the US. The White House described Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s criticism of the suspension of one US weapons delivery to Israel as “vexing” and “disappointing.”
