Rabat – According to beIN Sports, the Qatari sports network holding the 2024 Olympic Games broadcasting rights announced yesterday that Ilias Akhomach has been given medical clearance by the national team’s medical staff to play against Ukraine.
Right winger Akhomach was substituted by Abdessamad Ezzalzouli in the 59 minute of the thrilling match against Argentina on Wednesday, following an injury.
He provided the key pass that allowed Soufiane Rahimi to score the opening goal. His vision and precision were on full display as he set up the play that put Morocco ahead.
Later in the game, Akhomach was fouled inside the penalty area, earning a penalty kick for his team. Rahimi converted the opportunity in the 49 minute, securing Morocco’s lead.
Akhomach is a professional football player who plays as a right winger for La Liga club Villarreal. Born in Spain, he represents the Moroccan national team.
The Atlas Lions will face Ukraine this Saturday. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m. Moroccan time and will be broadcast on Arryadia, beIN Sports, and Eurosport 5.
In Wednesday’s match between Morocco and Argentina, which ended in a 2-2 draw, Morocco disputed the result, saying one of Argentina’s goals was offside.
The extensive stoppage time, which allowed Argentina to score an equalizer in the 106 minute, fueled doubts about the fairness of the decision and garnered sympathy for Morocco.
After reviewing the play with VAR, it was confirmed that Argentina’s second-half goal was offside, and Morocco’s 2-1 lead was reinstated for their opening game at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The referee’s decision to add 15 minutes of stoppage time sparked frustration among both Moroccan and non-Moroccan fans, leading to widespread outrage and disbelief on social media.
