Rabat – New data from Morocco’s Ministry of Tourism shows that tourist arrivals in Morocco reached 7.4 million during the first six months of 2024.

This number represents a 14% increase compared to 2023.

“Moroccan tourism continues its upward trajectory, as evidenced by the exceptional growth in the first half of 2024,” the ministry stated, adding that this year’s achievement also represents a spectacular 38% jump compared to 2019.

The ministry views this development as exceeding all expectations, stressing that the goal is to attract over 15 million tourists by the end of the year.

The ministry predicts that Morocco is likely able to exceed this benchmark, as the North African country has already welcomed 909,000 visitors in just six months.

June experienced a record arrival of 1.5 million tourists, showing an increase of 10% compared to 2023.

Minister of Tourism Fatim Zahra Ammor said that Morocco’s influence on the international tourism scene is undeniable.

Quoted in the ministry’s press statement released on Wednesday, the official added that the “unique assets of our country combined with the implementation of our (tourism) roadmap are bearing fruit.”

Looking towards the future, Morocco aims to attract over 17.5 million tourists by 2026. The minister remarked that this goal is “closer than ever.”

Last month, Minister Ammor noted that foreign currency travel revenues reached $3.2 billion by the end of April.

“We will continue to enrich our offerings, particularly by diversifying entertainment activities, to achieve our target of 120 billion dirhams ($12 billion) by 2026,” the tourism minister added, describing the industry as a crucial pillar of the country’s economy.
