Marrakesh – On Monday, the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture (IRCAM) unveiled a new online platform, titled “MOOC-IRCAM,” geared towards teaching the Amazigh language.
The launch coincided with the 13th anniversary of the language’s official recognition in Morocco, drawing together scholars and language advocates in Rabat. This momentous occasion is indicative of the advancements made since the enactment of Organic Law 26-16 in 2019, which integrates the Amazigh language into education and other key public sectors.
Highlighting the significance of this initiative, Ahmed Boukous, director of IRCAM, emphasized the collaborative efforts of national and international researchers in addressing the challenges of Amazigh language education.
Among these barriers, Boukous mentioned the shortage of qualified teachers as a critical concern.
The platform, which is the result of four years of effort, provides free access to learning the three main variants of the Amazigh language: Tarifit, Tamazight, and Tachelhit, as highlighted by Siham Boulaknadel, director of CEISIC.
She also added that this marks a significant advancement in the digital education of this language.
This initiative marks a milestone in digital Amazigh language education, democratizing access to learning for a wide audience, amidst increasing institutional demand.
