Rabat – On Monday in Rabat, all clubs in the Botola Pro League, Morocco’s top-tier football division, unanimously endorsed a comprehensive social protection initiative for professional football players and staff.

The announcement came at  the conclusion of a meeting at the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) headquarters. FRMF President Fouzi Lekjaa chaired the meeting, with attendees including presidents of professional clubs and Abdeslam Belkchour, President of the National Professional Football League (LNFP).

The meeting’s agenda centered around two critical points: improving social protections for professional players and technical staff, and addressing sports insurance and club civil liability.

According to the FRMF, the initiative entails a gradual reduction in employer contributions towards athletes’ and sports executives’ expenses.

These contributions are projected to decrease from 90% to 50% between 20124 and 2028, with an annual reduction of 10%.

The initiative also aims to provide comprehensive benefits, including Mandatory Health Insurance (AMO), family allowances, Professional Training Tax (TFP), short-term and long-term allowances (Retirement), and Unemployment Compensation (IPE).

The unanimity among club presidents reflects the broad consensus on the necessity and efficacy of the project, which will now advance to regulatory bodies for implementation.

Attention was drawn to new measures implemented by startups concerning the relationships between clubs and insurance companies.

These measures aim to better integrate incidents such as accidents and injuries involving players and technical staff during their professional activities.

Also decided at today’s meeting was the need to schedule a special meeting with club medical and administrative staff to further clarify these procedures and mechanisms and to familiarize them with the new platform dedicated to clubs.

Lekjaa hailed the decision as “historic,” stressing its potential to significantly improve the quality of life and prospects for Moroccan football athletes.

He emphasized that the collaborative effort behind this initiative over the past two years demonstrates a shared commitment to advancing football players’ welfare in Morocco.
