Rabat – A Moroccan delegation’s visit to Israel has sparked outrage among Moroccans, as the trip comes in the midst of the Israeli Occupation Forces’ (IOF) war on civilians in Gaza.
The delegation, a mix of young academics, social activists, and social media influencers, was invited by the “Sharakah” organization.
According to the group, such visits aim to promote the peace established by the Arab-Israeli peace agreement between Israel and several Arab countries that have restored relations with Tel Aviv.
“These are not Moroccans but dogs of Israel,” one commenter wrote on X.
Many other netizens shared the delegation’s pictures in Israel, noting that the trip comes as Israel ramps up its genocidal campaign in Gaza.
The trip starkly divided opinion, with many stressing that this visit does not represent Morocco’s position on the Palestinian cause.
“You know that the Moroccan people stand with Palestine and the resistance, with daily demonstrations taking place in Moroccan cities. So do not try to portray the Moroccan people as being with Israel because of these few individuals who claim to be Moroccans,” one wrote.
Morocco’s government has in recent weeks repeatedly stressed its support for the Palestinian cause, calling for an immediate ceasefire to end the suffering of Palestinians amid the IOF’s merciless campaign in Gaza.
Major Moroccan cities such as Rabat, Tangier, and Casablanca host weekly protests to denounce Israeli massacres and demand the end of diplomatic rapprochement between Morocco and Israel.
Israeli forces have since October 7 killed at least 38,295 Palestinians and injured 88,241 others in Gaza, with reports indicating that women and children account for the large majority of these victims.
Ambulance and rescue teams are still unable to reach thousands of casualties and dead bodies trapped under the rubble, leading many to assess that the real number of Israel’s victims is far higher than the official toll.
Meanwhile, the latest official report indicated earlier today that the IOF killed at least 52 Palestinians and injured 208 others in the past 24 hours.
