Rabat – Faced with relentless media coverage about the alleged arrest of Mohamed Boudrika, the president of Raja Casablanca, his relatives have denied news of his arrest in Germany.
Moroccan news outlet Le360 reported that Boudrika was arrested on Tuesday, quoting “reliable sources” who claimed his apprehension was based on an international arrest warrant issued by Moroccan security services.
“The leader of the Greens was traveling to Hamburg to meet with the head coach of the first team, Josef Zinabauer, in an effort to persuade him to continue his journey with reigning Moroccan champions and winners of the Throne Cup,” Le360 wrote.
The news outlet also noted that after failing to reach Boudrika on his personal phone, which was out of service, they managed to speak to his son, who told them that news of his father’s arrest was “a pure lie.”
“He is currently sleeping and I am with him in the room,” Le360 quoted his son as saying.
The wife of Raja Casablanca’s President also denied the media reports, telling Le360 she also learned of her husband’s alleged arrest from media reports and had no idea how they received that information.
The denial of the two family members comes in the wake of new reports claiming German police were in the middle of an extradition process to deport Boudrika back to Morocco.
Morocco World News (MWN) reached out to both the German embassy and Interpol for comments about the accuracy of the news reports.
But neither has responded to our request for comment at the time of writing.
The arrest reports come one day after Boudrika’s official pages on social networks shared posts about the opening of ticket sales for Raja Casabalnca’s upcoming friendly match against Real Betis.
