Rabat – Multinational cooperation company Microsoft is facing global backlash as an outage has gravely affected the operations of businesses, media outlets, stock exchanges, airports and other industries around the world.
The outage, which was first reported at 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (US) on Thursday evening, primarily affected Azure and Office365 services, but has expanded to hinder multiple industries including the London Stock Exchange in the early morning hours of Friday.
Several airports have announced that the outage negatively affected their activities, including the Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.
“There is currently a global system failure… This disruption also has an impact on flights to and from Schiphol,” the airport posted on X.
In response, Microsoft issued a statement today, noting that “our services are still seeing continuous improvements while we continue to take mitigation actions.”
Earlier this morning, Microsoft said that it is investigating the issue impacting users ability to access various apps and services.
“We’re working on rerouting the impacted traffic to alternate systems to alleviate impact in a more expedient fashion,” Microsoft added.
Euro News reported that over 1,000 flights have been canceled across the world today.
BBC quoted a Microsoft spokesperson, who asserted that a third party platform caused the issue.
“We’re aware of an issue affecting Windows devices due to an update from a third-party software platform. We anticipate a resolution is forthcoming,” the spokesperson said.
