Rabat – Abdelilah Benkirane, the Secretary of Justice and Development Part (PJD) has once again criticized Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch and his cabinet for his approach in handling public affairs.
Benkirane made his remarks in a party meeting in Rabat on Saturday, where he expressed strong disapproval of Akhannouch’s governance.
For Benkirane, the government is “managing affairs in a chaotic manner and it is unclear where things will end up under its leadership.”
He added that the current government is not solving any problems, but is rather “allowing them to escalate,” citing current challenges like the medical professionals’ strikes.
He also criticized the government’s “inefficiency and lack of communication.”
This is not the first time Benkirane has publicly criticized Akhannouch.
Earlier this month, Benkirane lashed out at the current government for failing to effectively deal with recent protests by Moroccan teachers and medical students.
He argued that Akhannouch’s government “knows neither reconciliation nor the opposite.”
“You initially clashed with the education sector personnel, yet ended up conceding to their demands by adding MAD 1,500 to their wages… but simultaneously attempted to punish some of them. Why is that?” Benikrane remarked, addressing Akhannouch directly. “There was no need for disciplinary measures if you reconciled. This pattern now repeats with medical students,” he fumed.
The PJD leader also criticized reforms introduced by the current government, including the cabinet’s plan to incorporate “shikhat,” performers who dance to Moroccan folk music, into higher education curriculum.
He referenced Minister of Higher Education Abdellatif Miraoui who proposed teaching young Moroccans about the historical significance and value of this particular subculture in Morocco’s identity.
“This person, shamelessly… I’m at a loss for words. I almost wish I could pass away and be forgotten before witnessing a Moroccan Higher Education Minister advocating for shikhat in the curriculum,” the PJD leader said.
