Rabat – The Argentinian Football Federation announced that it has lodged a complaint with FIFA following their team’s defeat to Morocco as part of the opening Olympics Games in Paris on Wednesday.

“Due to the events of public knowledge that occurred today in the match between our Under-23 National Team and the similar team from Morocco, a formal complaint has been submitted to FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee in order to take the necessary regulatory measures for incidents of such seriousness,” the federation said.

The federation did not specify the reason for the complaint, but hinted that the situation is  likely referring to the pitch invasion by fans at the end of the match.

Yesterday’s game was marred by a series of controversies. The first of which was the match’s official conclusion.

BeIN Sports reported following the initial final whistle that the game has been suspended and that it has not ended officially.

Initially, the game seemingly ended with a 2-2 draw. The situation sparked outrage amongst Moroccans fans, due to the fact that the  referee added 15 minutes to normal time, during which Argentina scored an equalizer.

The game then resumed, with the two teams playing the remaining three minutes. Ahead of the resumption, a VAR review overturned Argentina’s second goal, deciding it as an offside.

The game then ended with a 2-1 in favor of Morocco’s Atlas Lions.

In what is apparently a comment addressing fans’ invasion of the pitch, the federation said: “It is imperative to ensure the safety of the participants for the peaceful development of this beautiful sport that is football.”

Morocco’s Atlas Lions have also expressed concerns about yesterday’s event.

On behalf of his country, Morocco’s football star Achraf Hakimi expressed disappointment over the behavior of some supporters during the national team’s opening game at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

“I regret the behavior of some supporters during the match, which tarnished the image of our loyal fans. Such behavior has no place in football. Always Maghreb,” Hakimi wrote.

In addition to reminding Moroccan fans about good sportsmanship, Hakimi also joined in on expressing satisfaction with Morocco’s win.
